zen, the truth...well, really zen was just the title of the next luther album as had the hit men been an album title, but sometimes it's better to have a band name rather than a person's name and there was immedate trouble over the name of the band, so I called it zen with the others' agreement and we "moved on".
Steve Smith had been introduced to me by Paul Beavis who had been in the hit men. I didn't know steve smith at this time other than through paul so i went along with the idea. Steve said he's find a bassist and a drummer and then there was richard pearce bass and ross elliot, drums (the stud of the band!). Personally I was more interested in the music.
We recorded at steve smith's parents' place and produced two albums, zen1 and zen2. Simultaneously we recorded at Red Bus Studios. We toured with Errol Brown/Hot Chocolate. Great commercial act still going, big audiences.....not "cool"?....not cosmic, you mean, pop music and cosmicity....electricity....exposure....arguements....where there's muck there's brass?....where there's brass, there's villains!....end of zen, in come paul stacey and brother jeremy and bassist pat davey. Problem, what problem??? finish zen album in june 1983.
